Ames, Ia. — Iowa State and Northern Iowa will meet for the first time in the NCAA volleyball tournament later this week.
Both teams were named to the NCAA 64-team field on Sunday night. The schools will play at 5 p.m. Friday at Minneapolis in a first-round match.
Iowa State (19-12) and Northern Iowa (25-8) will be able to drive to the Sports Pavilion at the University of Minnesota.
"It's a great thing for Iowa volleyball," Iowa State coach Christy Johnson said.

Northern Iowa beat Iowa State on Sept. 10.
"I think we'll just duke it out like we do during the regular season," Iowa State middle hitter Jen Malcom said.
Host Minnesota and North Dakota State will meet in the other first-round match.
First-round winners meet on Saturday in a second-round match.
Both Iowa State and Northern Iowa reached the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive season.
"What better place to play them again?" Northern Iowa middle hitter Ashten Stelken said. "Hopefully we can bring a lot of Iowa State fans and a lot of Northern Iowa fans there and make it a really great atmosphere."
Iowa State beat 16th-ranked San Diego and upset eighth-ranked Wisconsin in last year's NCAA tournament. The Cyclones reached the round of 16 before ending their season in a defeat to No. 6 California.
Northern Iowa finished second to Missouri State on Saturday in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament championship.
