ASSOCIATED PRESS • December 1, 2008

Omaha, Neb. — Head injuries caused the death of former Iowa State football player Stevie Hicks.

Hicks, 25, was found under a bridge at about 8:30 a.m. Friday on Interstate 480 in the area of the Dodge Street interchange. Hicks was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says the head injuries were the result of "blunt force trauma ... from a fall." He says a final autopsy report may take several days, and results of toxicology tests were not finished.

Omaha police have ruled out foul play.

Hicks was the Cyclones' top rusher for three consecutive seasons. He played in high school at Creighton Prep in Omaha.
