After reading Jonathan Narcisse e-mail response to Craig Thomas Richman posted on desmoinesregister.com, I have to say I agree with Narcisse. We need to promote the concept of scholar athlete versus the popular athlete scholar because few high school and college athletes will be successful both on and off the court.

However, as an elected official, Narcisse needs to realize that he has to be extremely careful in how he communicates his beliefs. In my job preparing the next generation of teachers, I discuss the advantages and disadvantages of e-mail communications.
One of the key points is keep your message simple and to the point, because there is always the risk that the receiver interprets your message differently than you intended.
Second, be respectful. Never put something in an e-mail message that you would not say in person. Thus, I cannot condone the sexual analogy Narcisse used.
